This publication is intended as a supplement to the main study report, Passing the Torch: Strategies for Innovation in Community College ESL by Chisman and Crandall. It presents in-depth profiles of the five college programs whose adult ESL services were studied and found to be innovative and successful in terms of learning gains, student retention, and transitions to further education. Specifically, each profile addresses ESL programs, noncredit ESL program characteristics, special program features, use of technology, articulation and transitions, faculty, management, finance and program effectiveness.
